Acupuncture During Pregnancy
Acupuncture is a safe and effective option
Low back Pain or Sciatica
Low back pain and sciatica are incredibly common as your body shifts to make space for baby. Muscles in the low back and pelvis can become overused and tight due to their new position. Acupuncture can safely release these tight muscles, helping to significantly decrease low back pain.
Nausea and Vomiting
Nausea and vomiting affect at least 70% of all pregnant folks. There are specific acupuncture points to decrease nausea. These points can also be stimulated at home using acupressure for continued symptom releif.
Pubic pain or Lightening Crotch
Headaches or Migraines
Around 1 in 4 people experience pubic symphysis dysfunction during pregnancy. This is pain in the groin or shooting down the leg, especially with one-sided movements (like getting out of the car). This can be a result of tight muscles in the groin and inner leg pulling on the pubic bone and creating pain. Cupping and acupuncture have been exceptionally helpful in the cases who come into clinic.
Hormonal changes are a common cause of migraines in the first trimester. Acupuncture has been shown to safely decrease the frequency of migraine headaches in this review of over 22 trials. Tension type headaches are also very common in pregnancy, as chest tissue gets heavier and causes strain in the muscles that support the head and neck. In this review acupuncture was more effective than medication.
