How It Works
Each of our sports medicine acupuncture sessions is personalized to meet your unique needs. Here’s what you can expect:

Orthopedic Acupuncture
Orthopedic Acupuncture is the original and more specific version of dry needling. Because of this it is considerably less painful. This method is used to release spasmed muscles to improve range of motion and decrease pain. The end result being a more supple, relaxed muscle.
Cupping Therapy
Cupping creates a vacuum of pressure, pulling the tissue and fascia up. This allows for an increase in blood circulation to the muscles below, increasing oxygen exchange and bringing more nutrients and repair cells to the area. This reaction can speed muscle recovery and significantly decrease pain.
Therapeautic Guasha
A smooth edged massage tool is used to slide along tight muscles and fascia. This technique is used to help break up scar tissue, increase blood circulation to chronically tight and painful muscles, as well as boost immune function. Guasha is also known as instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization.
Specialized Care for Low Back Pain
Treating the whole person
Low Back Pain and Core Strength
Low back pain is often associated with core strength issues. Abdominal muscles that are dysfunctional can not do their of job bracing the low back. This in turn can cause low back weakness, pain and eventually injury. We assess each low back pain patient for any signs of core muscle dysfunction, and help them address the core issue causing their low back pain.
Not Just the Back Muscles
There are many muscles that impact the Sacroiliac Joint (where the sacrum and the hips meet). Tightness in the glutes, hips, quads and hamstrings can all create dysfunction in the low back. These muscles are assessed and treated.
Proper Alignment
It can be difficult to find a comfortable position when experiencing low back pain. During your session we will work diligently to properly align the back, hips and legs using pillows and props. This will allow you to relax in a position without experiencing pain or tension, and it creates some space for the cushioning discs between your vertebrae to replenish themselves.
Orthopedic Acupuncture
This certain style of needling called orthopedic acupuncture targets the specific muscles that are creating pain through dysfunction. Needling a specific area of the muscle called the motor point, we are able to relax a tight or spasming muscle to decrease pain and increase range of motion.
